Matter Over Mind…
Our whole bodies are nothing more than the outward expression of our thoughts. We get taught from a very young age things like,we should have a cold or fever when we get drenched in the rain, so when we go in the rain we end up with a cold or fever.
We are told that if we eat something that is considered unhealthy and will give us indigestion, and so we immediately feel tummy pain.
We see another person yawn, and we have the impulse to yawn as well.
If we worry about needing the toilet on a long car trip we will need the toilet during the drive.
If you think you are going to get a headache if you smell a certain odour etc, you will get the headache.
In the same way, when we hear of sickness all around us ( a bug “doing the rounds”)* and visualize it in our own minds with fear,we open ourselves up to getting it.
Sickness doesn’t come to us, because we create it.
So some advice to all of you is to stop thinking you have certain illnesses or phobias or anything negative and start thinking about how great, healthy and full of life and love you are instead.
No it may not be easy, but it is the truth and you CAN do it if you want to.
I visit a lot of pain/health groups on the web, some are very good, and I learn from these sites, some are not so good, and some are just weird. I got the above stuff from an Australian site ( I was actually looking to see if they needed someone with my skills, but couldn’t remember what my skills were, I don’t think that they were overly impressed with my application )* although I have not taken it word by word, I’ve re-jigged it as some of it would not make any sense to you peoples out there, is that insulting your intelligence? Anyway, I’d like YOUR thoughts on this ( if you could transfer your thoughts, by typing them into the comment box provided, it will be easier for everyone, remember not everybody has the power to read minds, like me)* Do you agree/disagree? Is it true for minor ailments, like colds & flu, but not for the major conditions such as cancer? Do you know of anyone who has recovered from an illness by making themselves think that they are no longer ill? Is it mind over matter? ( Yes!!, got the title in) Do you believe that it is utter garbage? If so, then say why?
Thank you for reading this thing that I do in this place that I do it in, this being the world (in)famous Island Blogging. Have you learned something from reading this thing that I just did? It’s actually quite possible. I know that is hard to believe, but as my mother used to say to me after I’d given her my excuse for something or other ” You learn something new everyday, now get to your bed”.
The last bit of my mothers wise words ( that’ll be the ” Get to your bed” bit)* is just an add-on, that has nothing to do with anything, it is just something I have to deal with myself. Like the difference between young peoples and older peoples ( over the age of 25)* is this-; A young person will say ” I have to go to bed in the evening when I’m not tired, and then when I’m fast asleep, and tired, I am told to get up” However an older person will say ” You can’t get them to go to their bed at night, and you can’t get them out of their bed in the morning”
Thank you Cheery……..

Aha … you have been reading the heavy stuff! I am not sure that we can actually cure disease by ‘mind over matter’, but I do think we can make our day a little happier, joyous even, by creating a good day. Trouble is, it isn’t a 100% sure thing, probably only about 90%, which is pretty good odds.
Mothers tend to know best … then when we grow up we find ourselves ‘parroting’ the same knowledge, simply because it may have worked in our childhood.
25 or 35 or 55 … we learn new things at all ages, but gain wisdom with maturity.
I think that Australians might be impressed with your qualifications! Just as long as you can sound convincing that is!
I think the “mind over matter” argument is a valid one sometimes. The mind is very powerful and can do amazing things. We can certainly “wish ourselves unwell” as you describe. However, some illnesses and diseases are purely physical. No amount of positive thinking can combat malign viruses and bacteria and hereditary factors - we can get sick even if we very much want not to, or don’t believe we will, or are in denial. On the other hand, the mind controls how we respond to such illnesses, and can play a part there.
Hope your mind is working well, Tws. Your bracketing skills have lost nothing
I will confess to being over 25…
